Reserve Firefighters
The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department’s Reserve Firefighter Program is dedicated to serving our community by providing support to our full-time personnel. This program offers individuals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fire service while preparing them for a potential career in this field. Our reserves are trained in various aspects of firefighting, emergency medical services, and community outreach, ensuring they are well-equipped to assist during emergencies and public events.
Training
Reserve firefighters participate in structured training sessions held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, excluding holidays. These sessions are conducted in a high-energy, disciplined, and positive environment, emphasizing the following areas:
- Fire suppression techniques
- Emergency medical services (EMS)
- Fire prevention and investigation
- Special rescue operations
- Public education and community outreach
Service Commitment
In addition to scheduled training, reserve firefighters are required to contribute a minimum of twelve hours of service per month. Service activities include:- Assisting with public education events
- Supporting training division operations
- Participating in community disaster preparedness initiatives
- Engaging in engine/truck company operations
- Providing assistance at major incident scenes
Requirements
To be eligible for the Reserve Firefighter Program, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess a valid California Driver License
- Successfully pass a Live Scan background check
- Hold a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card within one year of the application date
- Be a resident of either Livermore or Pleasanton, or be a current Los Positas College Fire Science student
- Assisting with public education events
- Supporting training division operations
- Participating in community disaster preparedness initiatives
- Engaging in engine/truck company operations
- Providing assistance at major incident scenes
These activities not only support the department’s operations but also provide reserves with valuable real-world experience.
Recruitment
While recruitment for the Reserve Firefighter Program is currently closed, individuals interested in future opportunities are encouraged to submit an interest card. This will allow the department to notify you when recruitment opens again.
