Explorers
The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) Fire Explorer Program, established in 1999, is a dynamic initiative aimed at introducing young adults to the fire service profession. In partnership with the Boy Scouts of America, this program provides participants with hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience, serving as a stepping stone for those considering a career in firefighting.
Training & Activities
Explorers engage in comprehensive training sessions that mirror the responsibilities and challenges faced by professional firefighters. Training occurs at the LPFD Training Center and various fire stations, ensuring a well-rounded experience.
Key Training Areas
- Fire Suppression Techniques: Hose operations, ladder drills, and search and rescue operations.
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS): Basic life support skills and patient care.
- Specialized Rescue Operations: Auto extraction, confined space awareness, and rope rescue
- Fire Prevention and Safety: Hazardous materials awareness and fire prevention strategies.
- Community Engagement: Participation in public education events and community outreach programs.
Regular Training Schedule
- Second and Fourth Sundays: Full-day sessions at the LPFD Training Center.
Expectations and Commitment
Participation in the Fire Explorer Program requires dedication and a strong work ethic. Explorers are expected to:
- Maintain Regular Attendance: Consistent participation in training sessions is crucial.
- Demonstrate Professionalism: Uphold the values and standards of the fire service.
- Engage in Community Service: Actively participate in public events and community outreach initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:- Age: Between 16 and 21 years old.
- Interest: A genuine desire to pursue a career in the fire service.
- Commitment: Willingness to dedicate time and effort to training and community service.
